Preservation: More Than Just Brick and Mortar saturday, may 10 @ 2 PM
Best Western Williamsburg historic district 351 York street, williamsburg in the ballroom
What makes a building or a battlefield worth preserving? Because significant events occurred there. How do we know about those events? Because of the stories left behind by the people who experienced them. Stories are what give meaning, interest, and connection to places. Join the WBA for a special program by Shades of Our Past that presents the story of what it was like for a battery of local Williamsburg and James City County men in Redoubt 3 during the May 5, 1862, Battle of Williamsburg. The story is told through the 1890 correspondence between Williamsburg’s Cynthia Coleman and William Garrett, who was captain of the battery. The program is free and open to WBA members and non-members. The WBA’s Annual Membership Meeting will follow the program. Non-members are welcome to stay for the meeting to hear about upcoming events and a battlefield preservation update.
